When local business owners and friends in the nearby Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. community, Chris Cooper of Zeppelin Cleaning Services and Jason Kaleta of Hill Mortgage announced they were competing in a friendly weight loss challenge to see who could drop the most weight during the month of August, Medical Weight Loss Clinic was thrilled to be part of it.
And now a winner has emerged.
Cooper’s starting weight was 211.5 pounds and he ended August at 199 - earning him the top spot.
“I was super happy to get under 200,” he said. He credited Medical Weight Loss Clinic’s program and staff with keeping him on track.
Kaleta’s final weight was 213 pounds, a 10-pound loss from his starting weight for the August challenge - and just 2.5 pounds less than Cooper’s final tally.
“With the help of Medical Weight Loss Clinic, you learn to balance meals so you don't feel hungry,” Cooper said. “It's a very easy plan to follow. The staff is so nice. It really helps to have a team that is guiding you while also keeping you accountable.”
He and Kaleta shared their competition on Facebook and even found a way to help some local non-profits along the way. For every pound Cooper lost, he promised to contribute $20 to Detroit Dog Rescue.
Janet Peppler, president of Detroit Dog Rescue’s Board of Directors, was excited about the chance to be part of this effort.
“When we heard that Chris Cooper was representing Zeppelin Cleaning Services in a charity support friendly competition, we were honored that he chose Detroit Dog Rescue,” she said. “After hearing it was for weight loss using the Medical Weight Loss Clinic system, I was even more excited as I knew what he would accomplish! I myself am a success of Medical Weight Loss Clinic and know the system works well when a commitment is made.
“Congratulations to Chris for his success and many thanks for supporting Detroit Dog Rescue.”
For every pound Kaleta lost, he contributed $20 to Kids on the Go. The competitors rewarded Facebook fans who commented on their weight loss challenge posts by donating an additional $5 to their charities.
Kristy Schena of Kids on the Go said she was also thrilled to hear the non-profit stood to benefit from this friendly community challenge. “Many of the programs offered through our organization place an emphasis on having fun with healthy living, whether it is by getting exercise by participating in our fun and fitness programs or being creative with nutritious meals and snacks in our Cooking Around the World and Socially Snacky classes.”
Medical Weight Loss Clinic couldn’t help but support the cause. Owner David Paull said the company was proud to be part of this effort. The company also donated to each of the charities in recognition of the duo’s weight loss efforts. Courtesy of Medical Weight Loss Clinic, Detroit Dog Rescue earned a $250 donation and Kids on the Go earned a $200 donation - based on the weight Cooper and Kaleta lost respectively.
“We're still tallying the final numbers,” said Cooper of the donations. “We created a donate button on Facebook for both charities. We've raised well over $1,000 already for each non-profit, in terms of our commitments from each of us and from others.”
Their healthy competition proved helpful to the community, too.
“We're so thankful to Medical Weight Loss Clinic for telling our story, contributing to our selected charities and bringing awareness to two great causes,” said Cooper.
