The holidays have officially arrived and for those searching for last-minute gifts, the staff at Medical Weight Loss Clinic are armed and ready with some great advice.
When shopping for a friend or family member who is looking to get a healthy start in the new year – or keep those extra pounds at bay – there are some gifts our team finds invaluable. And we know because our staff uses these items as well.
Kelly Smith, director of corporate operations for Medical Weight Loss Clinic, suggests giving items that make it easier to stay hydrated and eat healthy. For her, the top gifts this year include a new water jug or water cup and a fancy lunch bag. She’s also a fan of giving a gift certificate to a trendy or favorite market.
What better way is there to promote healthy choices?
Training director Tabitha Panetta at Medical Weight Loss Clinic also mentioned giving a favorite water bottle. It’s a must-have and easy stocking-stuffer. She would add to that gift list a lunch storage kit for salads as well as memberships or subscriptions to a local gym, fitness app or yoga class. These are all gifts worth giving this year.
Mona Brant, director of field operations at Medical Weight Loss Clinic, suggests gifts like an Apple Watch to track your health, an Air Fryer, to quickly cook healthy foods and a healthy cook book to inspire friends to try new recipes. She uses an air fryer herself and finds healthy recipes online to keep her on a healthy path. She also looks at the holidays in a specific way to avoid any unnecessary stress or weight gain.
“Treat the holidays individually,” Mona says. “Allow a holiday to be just that - a day - not days. So, one day does not lead to 2 weeks of unhealthy eating.”
When she’s at home, Kelly says, she keeps her scale accessible – a great way to encourage everyone to check in on their weight. Kelly’s also a fan of her Peloton, mini weights and yoga mat, which encourage her to exercise daily. And she keeps fresh fruits and bottles of water very visible in the house “so we grab those before unhealthy snacks and beverages,” she says.
Tabitha agrees that her air fryer and workout equipment are some of the most-loved items at home. She also makes good use of a smoothie blender and slow cooker to prepare healthy food.
Once all of the gifts are opened and the holidays have passed, there are still plenty of ways to support those we love as they continue on a healthy journey.
Be mindful of your actions. Don’t use or allow sabotaging behaviors. Saying things like “Come on, it’s just one drink” or “Have a tiny bite of dessert” or “You can get back on track tomorrow” are not helpful toward our goals. Instead, you can support friends, family and your own health by including healthy food options where ever you go and whenever you have company.
And there’s one gift that’s always available for purchase – gift certificates to Medical Weight Loss Clinic. Ask your local clinic about purchasing a personalized weight loss program for someone you care about. Couples often tell us that going through weight loss programs together has been the key to their success as a new year begins.
