If you’ve been working hard to hit your weight loss goals, don’t let anything get in your way. You might feel a mix of excitement and dread about watching the Big Game between the Chiefs and 49ers this weekend — and not because of the competition itself.
At Medical Weight Loss Clinic, we get it.
A football viewing party can be a minefield for anyone trying stay on track with healthy eating. It’s usually thought of as a time for indulgent snacks, appetizers and alcohol. But we are here to support you through life challenges like this. One social gathering doesn’t have to undo your hard won progress.
Prepare for Success
Medical Weight Loss Clinic Recruiting Manager Lauren Lipinski says mindset is always important going into a social gathering. Have the willpower to stay on track and be mindful about the food choices you make. Remind yourself to reach for snacks you won’t regret later.
Whether you’re the host or a party attendee, it’s a good idea to eat something before the event, so that you’ll be less tempted to overindulge.
“A serving of protein along with a healthy carbohydrate is a good option, or a protein shake,” Lauren says. “Something that will not quite make you entirely full but will ensure that you won’t show up to the event starving either.”
How Hosting Helps
If you are the host of the gathering, take advantage of the ways you can benefit from that.
“Hosting the event I think definitely increases your chance to stay on track, because you have access to your supplements and healthy fruits and veggies at your own home. It’s easy to slip away from the crowd and prepare a protein shake or grab an apple and protein bar when others begin snacking,” Lauren says.
Make a Healthy Contribution
But if you aren’t the host, you can be a thoughtful guest while you also look out for your health!
Sometimes we refrain from packing a healthy snack because we do not want to draw attention to ourselves or let many know that we are on a diet,” Lauren says. “The trick is, it’s a nice gesture to show up to the party with a contribution, but in reality, it’s simply ensuring there will be at least one healthy option for you to snack on!”
Good quick options are veggie or assorted fruit trays that you can pick up from the grocery store.
If you want to cook, there are several MWLC-friendly recipes you can make that go over great at a party, even for guests who aren’t on a diet.
A few options are:
· Veggie sloppy joe dip — great with diet snack crackers (or tortilla chips for the other guests) or fresh veggies
· Buffalo chicken lettuce wraps
