Growing Your Own Produce

Craving a kitchen garden - but limited by lack of outside space? These fruits and veggies don’t need much room and will thrive in window boxes.

Lettuce
Baby leaf lettuce doesn’t need much room for roots and grows quickly (even indoors in bright light!) Many varieties are “cut and come again,” meaning they’ll grow back after they’ve been trimmed for salads. Grow lettuce in batches, a couple of weeks apart, for a continuous crop throughout the summer.

Peppers
Pepper plants are happy in sheltered, warm positions. Try dwarf varieties; they don’t require much support and won’t block your view! If growing from seed, start in tiny pots and transplant to larger pots before committing to their final location.

Strawberries
Strawberry plants thrive in a sunny spot. Select an everbearing variety to enjoy fruit all summer. Choose a container with good drainage and water regularly.
