This summer the drive-in movie theater is having a renaissance. Whether you’re headed to the Ford-Wyoming Drive-In or recreating the experience in your driveway, one thing is certain. You’re going to want to stock up on movie snacks.

But that doesn’t have to mean the biggest bucket of popcorn or a bag of chocolate candies that cost you a day’s worth of calories.

Laurie Passalaqua, Medical Weight Loss Clinic counselor in Southgate, has some ideas that can help you enjoy the drive-in experience, without losing sight of your health goals.

Prepare ahead for snacking

“I’m a big fan of veggie trays and fruit trays,” Laurie says. “They’re good for everyone, even if you’re not on plan.

For those who are sticking to the program, she suggests making some delicious dips out of plain, non-fat yogurt. Just add Medical Weight Loss Clinic supplements. Make good choices more convenient

She suggests washing those fruits or vegetables before they get lost in the refrigerator. Cut up the watermelon or cantaloupe and store it so it’s easy to grab in bags or containers. That way those healthy snacks can go where ever you do, in no time.

Keep what you need handy

There isn’t much that’s required to make healthy snacks you can take with you. Stock up on sandwich baggies, foil wrap or small containers.

Laurie relies on her salad spinner for so much more than lettuce. She’ll wash grapes, give them a spin and store them in the fridge ready-to-grab and eat. And she loves to cook chicken in the crock pot and shred it. That’s another easy way to keep ready-to-eat healthy options right at your fingertips.

Whether it’s an outdoor movie or a family birthday party, Laurie says, you always want to eat at least a little something before you go. That way, you can grab a small plate or enjoy a small snack and not feel hungry enough to indulge too much. 

“It’s a lifestyle change,” Laurie says. “We want everyone to eat their fruits and vegetables to stay healthy and live a longer, healthier and more energetic life.”
