Progress isn't always about the number on the scale

At Medical Weight Loss Clinic, our experts know there’s more than one way to track progress.

Patients come to us with a variety of health goals. They may be looking to lose weight, reverse or better manage a medical condition, maintain or improve on a healthier life. And our experienced staff is always ready to help with customized plans and consistent support.

Look ahead to a healthier you. We can help you get there.

Lauren Lipinski is our regional manager at Medical Weight Loss Clinic. She sees patients who are progressing toward their goals in so many ways.

“When I sit with a patient who is expressing concern or frustration with the scale number, one of the first things I do is take a look at their measurements,” Lauren says. “Showing them the results in their neck, chest, waist and hips can really remind them that it is not always about the number on the scale.”

There are all kinds of non-scale victories, in fact. Lauren asks patients if they are getting more restful sleep, seeing less swelling in their feet or legs, getting lower blood pressure readings, noticing less bloating or stomach problems - or showing improvement in indigestion and acid reflux issues.

“Even tying our shoes gets easier!” she says. “Sometimes patients do not focus on these things because they are so tuned in to their weight.”

As our patients begin to see progress, they are sometimes surprised to find there are so many ways their lives are improving. Here are a few ways to track healthy progress:

·      We have more energy and feel less fatigued during the day. Whether it’s at the office or while exercising, energy improves.

·      Numbers on the scale are headed in the right direction.

·      We can look in the mirror and see improvements in our bodies, our face, and even posture. “We recommend patients use a full-length mirror to be able to see the full profile,” Lauren adds.

·      Muscle tone or mass is building. “We begin to feel stronger and have more stamina when exercising or even mild exertion like taking the stairs, walking through the grocery store and more,” she says.

·      Chronic pains lessen. We feel better overall in our bodies.

·      Clothes are fitting looser.

·      Your doctor reduces the amount or kinds of medications you need.

·      Our appetite changes. We don’t over-think about eating. We have a plan that’s easy to follow and keeps us satiated. “As our metabolism increases, we find that we feel hungry at the right times – meal or snack times - and satiated by healthier foods,” says Lauren.

·      Our moods improve. We might find our self-esteem is given a boost as we work toward our goals and see them within our reach.

Look beyond the number on the scale. There are so many benefits to finding your personalized healthy path. Each one of these wins can help motivate us to keep going, stay on track and life our happiest, healthiest lives.
