The Medical Weight Loss Clinic team shares words of encouragement

In these unprecedented times our Medical Weight Loss Clinic staff are working to stay healthy and stay home, just like our patients are.

We miss the one-on-one interactions with one another now more than ever and can’t wait to return to the clinics. During this time, our staff is sharing words of encouragement, tips and tricks that we hope will help patients to stay positive and stay on track even as our clinics are temporarily closed.

You might have seen our messages on Facebook – and we’ll keep them coming too. In the meantime, here are some highlights we hope will make your day a little brighter.

“I know it is tough out there but we can get through this together,” says Tracy Stefanides, manager of our Shelby Township clinic. “Keep your normal routine. Get up. Get your day started. Shower. And then start working on activities in the home – maybe cleaning a room or organizing a closet. Keep yourself active and motivated.”

Rosie R., manager of our Lansing Medical Weight Loss Clinic, shared three things she’s doing each day, that can help us all stay fit. It all comes down to food, structure and movement.

“Food is something that I can control during the day,” Rosie says. “I can go to the grocery store or even have groceries delivered to me. I can choose the portion sizes, the seasonings. I can control my beverages during the day. It gives me a goal and it gives me something to accomplish… something I can succeed at.”

But that’s not all. Rosie also suggests creating a to-do list for each day. She personally puts together about 10 items and tries to accomplish at least 8 of them each day.

“It gives me structure,” she says. “It gives me a schedule. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment.”

It’s important to feel fulfilled and successful each day, and to do so, Rosie suggests that you try to move your body for an hour every day. It doesn’t have to be a strenuous workout. Try taking a walk with family, or do yoga in your living room.

“I guarantee you’ll feel better getting those natural endorphins going,” she says. “You’re going to lower your cortisol levels and hopefully it just helps you to stay accountable the rest of the day.

Staying accountable is on Jennifer Sodini’s mind, too. Our consultant based at the Medical Weight Loss Clinic in Warren wants everyone to “keep doing the very best that you can. Try to drink as much water as you can and stay active.”

At Medical Weight Loss Clinic, we offer a variety of resources for you to use during this time.  Keep up your food journal. Keep track of your water. And of course, explore MWLC.com for new recipes and tips and tricks.

Above all, be kind to yourself.

As our Regional Director Mona Brant says: “Cut yourself some slack. I know it’s a trying time right now and we’re not able to get the groceries we need to get. Some of us are challenged with that.

“You gotta look at what you’re doing as opposed to what you’re not doing. If you’re doing something that’s not perfect but it’s better than what you could be doing – be proud of yourself. These are hard times.”

But they won’t last forever.

“We’re proud of you and we can’t wait to get back and work with you personally one on one,” Mona says. And you’ll hear that sentiment from all of us.
