Shelby couple gets healthy together with Medical Weight Loss Clinic

Sue and Joe Medley of Shelby Township started a healthy journey together on July 1, 2020 and, by Valentine’s Day, they’re already seeing results they love.

“We were struggling to stay active with the pandemic stay-at-home guidance,” says Sue. “My husband had multiple gout flare-ups and our family doctor suggested weight loss is the first step to help reduce the impact. We’ve tried (other) diets but none of them provided support. I thought we would try Medical Weight Loss Clinic.”

The couple, parents to a 15 and 21-year-old, had tried high protein plans, programs based on whole foods and even drinking bone broth. But each time something important was missing.

“Those programs didn’t provide the personal coaching and regular suggestions to help us stay on a consistent weight loss program,” says Sue. “The staff at Shelby Township has done a fabulous job to help us navigate enjoying real-life and still focus on losing weight.”

And it’s working! Sue has so far dropped 30 pounds and Joe has lost 40 pounds.

Joe and Sue Medley started their programs with Medical Weight Loss Clinic in July and are seeing success together.

“I feel so much better and am more active,” Sue adds. “I have a better understanding of nutritional needs and what is needed for continued health. I am making better choices because of this.”

Joe says he too has more energy and has lowered his cholesterol.

“I’ve learned the triggers that caused my weight gain and learned to manage portion sizes to feel great and lose weight,” he says. “Most foods can be bought at the local grocery store and complemented with nutritional supplements directly from Medical Weight Loss Clinic. It’s a great balance to avoid the repetitiveness I’ve experienced with other diet programs.”

Embarking on this healthy journey together has made a major difference, the couple agreed.

“Making meals for two people who are committed to the program is much easier,” says Sue. “As a couple, it’s been easier to share meals and shop for the right foods.”

For her, breaking some bad habits with food has been the biggest hurdle so far. But she is working toward a healthier relationship with food. And she feels daily support from her husband which she calls “a tremendous help.”

Joe says his biggest challenge has been avoiding French fries and candy bars. But by managing his portion sizes, eating smaller meals and feeling full, he says he’s much less likely to crave those snacks.

“Medical Weight Loss Clinic bars have provided a great replacement for candy bars in between meals,” he adds. “There are many flavors to choose from.”

The Medleys say they’ve learned so much so far about the impact of foods on their health and well-being. Daily food tracking helps them stay accountable. The success won’t deter them from celebrating this together on Feb. 14, either.

“We will hopefully go out and enjoy a nice dinner supporting a local restaurant,” says Sue. “This year will be quiet and simple.”

The ultimate goal?

“Being able to live a healthier lifestyle as we age together,” she adds.

And what could be more important or more romantic than that?
