Refocus on your health with Medical Weight Loss Clinic

New year – new start. It doesn’t matter if your simply continuing progress on your healthy journey, recommitting to a program that works for you or starting from the beginning, Medical Weight Loss Clinic professionals can help you make the most of your efforts.

Anne Kolbert knows there’s something special about this time of year at Medical Weight Loss Clinic.

“The new year is the perfect time to restart healthy habits,” she says. “It’s about new beginnings; new resolutions and it’s a new chance to reach your goal weight.”

Just getting started or restarted? We’re here to support you to help reach those goals.

Anne is a manager at the Troy location of Medical Weight Loss Clinic. She and her team are ready to welcome new and existing patients to make the most of 2025. After the overindulgence of the holiday season, these early months are an ideal time for us all to get back to the healthy basics.

For Anne, that means trying out new recipes at MWLC.com, planning ahead when you’re going to eat at a restaurant and keeping a daily food journal to track supplement, meals, daily protein and water intake.

Noura Kanouna, medical assistant at the Troy clinic agrees.

“Daily visits with your consultants, as well as filling out your food journal will allow you to be accountable and help us to counsel you as well,” she says.

Noura suggests patients should come in three times a week to recommit to a healthy personalized program. She and Anne shared the following tips to keep in mind between those visits:

  • Measuring and weighing out foods can prevent overeating.

  • Eating a variety of protein, fruits, vegetables and starches can keep a diet interesting and beneficial for our health.

  • Using apps to track foods online will help you make mindful eating choices.

  • Making sure to have a working food scale and measure and weigh portions will avoid going off track.

Imagine how much you can achieve by next year?

Now is the time to recommit to your weight loss journey. We are here to help. Schedule your free consultation today at MWLC.com.

Savor the final summer days with these Medical Weight Loss Clinic super food ideas

Medical Weight Loss Clinic’s team has the superfood suggestions you’ve been looking for all summer long.

Updated: 7/24/25

Summer is a time for creativity when it comes to healthy eating. The season’s warmest days are numbered, but everyone still wants to beat the heat with drinks and meals to keep them cool, and Medical Weight Loss Clinic patients are looking for ways to be successful in their weight loss journey with busy calendars of final summer vacations, kids’ sports, and back to school events.

The Canton clinic duo of manager Monifa Khorshid and medical staffer Dalia Hassan get it. They say patients are always asking for ideas to help them on long car trips or spending days at the ball field watching their kids play. They have several supplements and recipe ideas to help you stay on track this summer.

Berry Supplement Ice Cubes

Canton Clinic Manager Monifa Khorshid and Medical Staffer Dalia Hassan at Medical Weight Loss Clinic share their beat-the-heat summer super food ideas.

As summer temperatures rise, hydration becomes extra important. But water doesn’t have to get boring. One way to make your water flavorful while getting important nutrition is by making ice cubes out of Medical Weight Loss Clinic’s Wild Berry Fruit Drink supplement, and chilling water with them. The supplement has 15 grams of protein per serving. As the ice melts, the water will be infused with the wild berry flavor and protein.

To help meet fiber and flavor needs, you can opt to add the Fulfill Mixed Fruit Drink fiber supplement in water too.

Strawberry Cream Smoothie and Berry Cream Smoothie Supplements

Berry flavors also shine through the Strawberry Smoothie and Berry Smoothie supplements. They each have 15 grams of protein per packet and make great summer desserts.

Monifa suggests combining one of the smoothie mixes with plain yogurt and water, then freezing in popsicle molds. If ice cream is more your preference, you can blend the smoothie mix with plain yogurt and freeze.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers are a refreshing summer veggie that helps you stay hydrated and full. For a simple salad with three to four servings of veggies, Monifa suggests cutting up cucumbers and tomatoes, adding onions and garlic, then topping them with apple cider vinegar. To customize the flavor, add oregano, parsley, ground pepper or lemon juice to your liking.

Veggies in Summer Salads

Dalia says that for anyone, salad is the best meal for summer.

“It’s easy, it’s fresh, it’s cool. Your body is not going to make you sweat in the middle of the day or feel sleepy. Salad is something we suggest for our patients.”

She said salads are especially great meals for people who don’t have time to eat all their vegetables separately. The Medical Weight Loss Clinic team recommends putting a variety of chopped vegetables in a bowl, adding protein, like grilled chicken, and a carbohydrate, like a small piece of pita bread.

For simple dressings, they suggest Medical Weight Loss Clinic’s dressing seasonings with fresh or dry herbs added to taste. Other options include fresh lemon or lime juice with mint, garlic, chopped onion and apple cider vinegar. If you opt for store-bought dressings, Dalia says to look for one that is low-carb, low sodium and less than 30 calories per teaspoon.

Sloppy Joes Supplement for Lettuce Wraps

For an easy meal that’s great to take on the go to the beach or the ball field, Monifa suggests making lettuce wraps with the Sloppy Joe nutritional supplement. Add cut up chicken, onions, peppers and seasoning like Dash, and you’re ready for a tasty, nutritious summer meal to take anywhere!

The Medical Weight Loss Clinic team is ready to offer customized ingredient and recipe suggestions to help you reach your own goals. Sign up for a free consultation today at mwlc.com to learn more.

How to stay healthy while working from home

New to working from home? Find out how to curb your snack cravings and stay healthy.

Journaling is just one way to stay on track and keep snacks at bay while working from home.

Journaling is just one way to stay on track and keep snacks at bay while working from home.

The COVID-19 concerns have impacted all of our lives and created some uncertainty about the future. Many of us have been encouraged to work from home – for the first time. If you find yourself working from home and faced with temptation from being in proximity to the kitchen and tempted to snack, we’ve got some great advice to help curb the cravings.

Tabitha Panetta, training supervisor at Medical Weight Loss Clinic, says that pre-planning is the key to staying healthy in your new work environment. “Without structure and routine, you could you find yourself eating more than you realize,” she says.

Stay on track and use your journal to your advantage. It can be a powerful tool for pre-planning meals and snacks, and a great way to stay on track with your food and beverage intake.

“It will help you be accountable to your normal structure,” says Panetta. “Trying to maintain your routine will help you stay on your diet in times we feel things are not in our control.”

For moments that feel out of control when it comes to your weight loss journey, call your local Medical Weight Loss Clinic and set up a phone visit. Contact with our team is so much more than just a chance to step on the scale or take your blood pressure; it’s a time to focus on you – how you’re feeling, how your health journey is going and what can be done to enhance it.

“Our one-on-one counseling - even if it’s on the phone - is important to keep your goals top-of-mind,” Panetta says. “During times like these, focus on what you can control and rely on what you’ve learned. Portion control and structured eating are still the focus whether you are in the clinic or not. You are successful because of the changes you are making and they can be continued. You can do this!”

Don’t be afraid to try something new, too. Go outside for a walk, find some new activities you can enjoy in your home. “Now that you are home more often it can be a great time to finally try that online yoga class or get into a meditation routine,” Panetta advises.

Stay focused on your health and well-being. Try phone visits, keep journaling and get some exercise. It will make all the difference.

Corporate wellness can start with you

Medical Weight Loss Clinic professionals help individuals reach healthy goals – but they also help large groups do so through workplace wellness programs. Find out how.

Alyssa’s inspiring story has spread throughout her workplace, and even more people are making healthy changes at Morley.

Alyssa’s inspiring story has spread throughout her workplace, and even more people are making healthy changes at Morley.

At Medical Weight Loss Clinic, we know corporate-wide health and wellness can begin with just one person.

Saginaw’s Alyssa Lange is a perfect example. Throughout her own health challenges in life, she just didn’t know where to turn.

Alyssa’s story

“I’ve been overweight as far back as I can remember,” Alyssa said. “Even as an active kid, I was still heavy. Once I got to high school and got more involved in academics and took an afterschool job, the weight really started building. This carried over to when I started working.”

Alyssa tried just about every diet to fight the weight gain. Nothing worked. “It was depressing!” she said.

She recalled stepping on the scale and seeing it read 200, then later 300 pounds. She was frustrated that her doctors were not helpful even as she began fighting more serious health problems.

“I tried talking to my family doctor; she did not take me seriously and blew off my request for help,” Alyssa recalled. “It was very hurtful that she did not believe I was worth her time. Luckily my gastroenterologist was willing to help… Her office was the first one that put me in touch with Medical Weight Loss Clinic to try one more time to lose weight.”

Joining Medical Weight Loss Clinic

When Alyssa joined Medical Weight Loss Clinic in Saginaw, she weighed 410 pounds and walked with a cane. She began learning how to control her Crohn’s Disease, weighed in regularly, replaced processed foods with healthier meals and took note of portion sizes. Alyssa discovered how to use spices to flavor meals and became more active. She was making changes that work.

“I did not realize how bad the food was making me feel until I started eating better,” she said.

Alyssa has lost 120 pounds so far and is aiming for another 100-pound loss over the next year. Even more, she’s become an inspiration at her office, Morley, headquartered in Saginaw. Recently, she was recognized and celebrated as an honored champion among her co-workers.

“Where I work has a program that pays you for your weight loss,” she said. “I was doing a weigh in and telling the story about the program I was using. (My employer) was excited to hear about my success.”

Enhancing Corporate Wellness

From there, Medical Weight Loss Clinic was welcomed to share information at Morley’s annual health fair held in October.

As Medical Weight Loss Clinic's wellness and business development coordinator, Tracy Strieter works directly with business owners and human resource professionals across two states. Michigan- and Ohio-based businesses are currently enrolled in Medical Weight Loss Clinic’s Corporate Wellness programs – and employees across the board are seeing healthy changes.

Strieter considers Alyssa’s inspiring success to be one of so many she’s seen come through the Corporate Wellness program.

“When it comes to impacting a company’s corporate wellness, sometimes all it takes is one successful employee to (find) a weight loss resource that really works for their employees,” Strieter, said. “It’s a win – win! Our partners win by having healthy employees and we are truly thrilled about making a positive difference.

Strieter has already seen dramatic changes take place at Morley.

“During the last year, several of their employees have taken advantage of the corporate discount we extended as part of their corporate wellness partnership,” she said. “We are also planning some educational lunch & learns at Morley in 2020.

Strieter customizes corporate wellness programs based on the needs of each company. She works directly with human resources managers to meet individualized goals. And for the businesses participating – gaining a healthier workforce can even translate into a cost savings in health insurance and related expenses.

At Morley, she said, the focus is on healthy eating, reading food labels and managing other health topics that complement Morley’s wellness goals for their employees.

“We have become a weight loss resource to not only the employees that use our services, but also help with the overall healthy eating education of the entire company,” Strieter said.

Medical Weight Loss Clinic currently partners with more than 140 businesses across Michigan and in Toledo, Ohio. Medical Weight Loss Clinic is also proud to be a listed as a Michigan Worksite Wellness Provider.

If you’re ready to add a proven weight loss resource to your business or enhance your corporate wellness programs already in place, contact StartYourJourney@mwlc.com to learn more about how Medical Weight Loss Clinic can help.

Picturing Success: Tilla Abel loves how she looks in her jeans

Losing weight was a struggle for Tilla A. before she found Medical Weight Loss Clinic. Now she’s back to her Size 28 jeans and couldn’t be happier.

Tilla Abel is the first to admit that caring for herself can be a challenge. She’s used to putting others first. Tilla was caring for her ailing mother and brother when in just 5 years she gained 40 pounds. Tilla noticed her confidence waning. She knew she needed help to get her health back on track.

Tilla looked to Medical Weight Loss Clinic to get back to a size where she feels healthier and more confident.

Tilla looked to Medical Weight Loss Clinic to get back to a size where she feels healthier and more confident.

“I struggle to put my health first,” she said. “When I joined Medical Weight Loss Clinic I made up my mind to take my life and my body back. I work 40+ hours a week so the struggle was real.”

Tilla joined Medical Weight Loss Clinic in June 2018. She found the staff at our Troy location helpful and encouraging. “Tabitha has been particularly helpful to my weight loss,” said Tilla. “She was always very supportive and interested in my journey. She is extremely knowledgeable. Everyone has been a pleasure to work with and I will continue to recommend Medical Weight Loss Clinic to all of my personal clients in need of a similar life change. These ladies re-wired me.”

In all Tilla spent 18 weeks on the program and lost 40 pounds and more than 16 inches on her waist. She went from a size 14 to a size 8 – which she calls “high school skinny.”

These days you’ll find Tilla on the trails.

These days you’ll find Tilla on the trails.

How did she do it? Some of her favorite tips for weight loss involved eating healthy snacks all day so she wouldn’t feel hungry at night. Tilla also reminded herself that “skinny feels better than (anything) tastes” and it helped keep her on track. She also developed an affinity for yogurt bars and Mrs. Dash Taco Seasoning to keep her meals tasting as delicious as they were healthy.

“I can tell you I feel amazing inside and out,” said Tilla. “My clothes feel sexy again on me. Wearing jeans was unflattering and uncomfortable. Now I grab my Size 28s and run to any event in style.”

But the progress has meant more than just a boost in confidence for Tilla. Her health has improved, too.

Tilla regained confidence when she lost weight with Medical Weight Loss Clinic.

Tilla regained confidence when she lost weight with Medical Weight Loss Clinic.

“I was taking medication for IBS for years,” she said. “Now, I am med-free! Medical Weight Loss Clinic taught me how to eat and stay thin and feel great.”

She can accomplish activities she might never have attempted before she renewed her dedication to her health. “I rode my bike 20 miles last night,” she said. “Before the weight loss, I would be lucky to get in 5 miles.”

Tilla is working to keep her weight at a healthier level – and that continues to be her goal.

“I know that Medical Weight Loss Clinic changed my life for the good,” she said. “They explained to me the foods that were helping to keep me chubby and it taught me how to eat cleaner.”

Cheer on our Honored Champions at the Tour de Cure Sept. 30 in Detroit

Each year, thousands of bike riders take to streets in their hometowns to fight diabetes and its challenges as part of the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. Medical Weight Loss Clinic is thrilled to be a part of it all on Sept. 30.

Each year, thousands of bike riders take to streets in their hometowns to fight diabetes and its challenges as part of the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. This year in Detroit, hundreds will gather at Comerica Park to ride – or walk - for a great cause. Medical Weight Loss Clinic is thrilled to be a part of it all on Sept. 30.

To celebrate this event, we are bringing with us four people we call our Honored Champions. These team members will share their weight loss journey and give hope to those who struggle to lose weight – for any reason.

“These individuals were chosen to be MWLC Honored Champions because they serve as role models for those who struggle with diabetes, heart disease, stroke, Crohn’s disease or colitis,” said Tracy Strieter, Wellness and Business Development Coordinator, Medical Weight Loss Clinic. “Through their stories, they continue to make a positive impact on their health through our services, and inspire others along the way.”

Meet our 2018 Honored Champions:

Vivian D. – At the age of 43, Vivian suffered a stroke that was due to a hole in her heart and high cholesterol. After her cardiologist voiced concerns about operating on her because of her weight, Vivian enrolled in a program at Medical Weight Loss Clinic and lost 40 pounds over the course of 3 months. Her doctor credits her weight loss success with the fact that surgery is no longer necessary, and she can get off of her cholesterol medication.

Kyle L. – When Kyle Lobes used to look at his kids, it was with a sense of foreboding that his weight might prohibit him from watching them grow and thrive. When his weight topped out at 284 pounds, he knew he had to make some changes, lest he regret it. So he started on a program last November at Medical Weight Loss Center and has watched more than 70 pounds melt away as he focuses on eating better and chasing his kids around the house.

Maurice M. – Maurice has a history of diabetes that runs in his family, and his doctor informed him recently that he was straddling the border of diabetes, due to his weight. As an avid gym-goer, Maurice was discouraged with his loss of energy due to weight gain. But after losing 50 pounds at Medical Weight Loss Clinic, he finds he has the energy needed to attack the gym as often as he likes, which has made his weight loss journey one with a happy ending.

Tony T. – Like many, Tony struggled to lose weight for a long time. He tried every method he could but didn’t find lasting success until he joined programs here at Medical Weight Loss Clinic. His waist size went down 10 inches and he was able to stop taking three medications. Tony believes in following the program and said his confidence and relationships are all the better for it.

Medical Weight Loss Clinic’s participation in the Tour de Cure is part of its 2018 Giveback Campaign where we support and give back to the continual research and community services provided by the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Michigan in 2018.

Want to join our champions? To register to ride in the Tour de Cure Michigan, or learn more about the event, please visit their website.
