Anne’s story…
Everyone has their own “why” when it comes to the reason they start a weight loss journey and join Medical Weight Loss Clinic. For Anne Dehaan of Ann Arbor, her daughter’s wedding gave her the motivation she needed.
“Our only child became engaged in June 2023, and when she said her wedding would not be until August 2025, I knew she was giving me a huge opportunity to get the weight off in time for the wedding,” Anne, 64, says. “I needed a true, solid purpose to lose the weight. My daughter's wedding and those forever pictures became my purpose. I did not want generations to see me at my worst but at my best!”
No one thing caused her weight gain, which happened gradually due to what Anne says was just life: a sedentary lifestyle, poor nutrition, stress with career changes, relocations, age, Covid, and bad knees — which led to knee replacements three months apart in 2020. Anne’s weight gain contributed to her becoming pre-diabetic and her blood pressure creeping up to unhealthy levels.
With her daughter’s impending wedding giving her the motivation she needed to make healthy changes, Anne set out to lose weight on her own. In six weeks, she lost 10 pounds, which she says was too slow. So, since there was a Medical Weight Loss Clinic close to her workplace, Anne decided to set up a free consultation to learn about our programs. She felt confident in our science-backed approach and got started at the Ann Arbor clinic.
“Medical Weight Loss Clinic taught me what foods not to eat, appropriate portions, appropriate times of the day to eat, and how important drinking water is to good nutrition,” she says. “It has taught me how to plan and prep for daily meals. Journaling my daily food intake is huge and very important. If I'm traveling, I'm now planning how to pack and bring along appropriate foods rather than eating from fast food places.”
With guidance, support and education from her clinic’s team, Anne dropped 105 pounds and 46.25 inches in 50 weeks.*
She is amazed by the positive impact the weight loss has had on her everyday life.
“I feel like a teenager again! I walk every day for at least 45 minutes. I can ride a bicycle again without any knee pain. I’m out of ‘plus-sized’ clothing and wearing fashionable, current trend clothes again! I was a 3X and am now a Medium (8-10),” Anne says. “All the potential health issues have been put to rest and no longer exist. When I sit in theater seats or airplane seats, I'm not squeezing into the seat! My family is no longer worried about my health and quality of life. My husband says he has his girlfriend back.”
Anne wants others to know they can trust the Medical Weight Loss Clinic weight loss methods to help achieve their goals too.
“Medical Weight Loss Clinic has studied weight loss for 30+ years and developed supplements and pharmacy-based medicines,” she says. “There will be times during the weight loss journey when plateaus exist. The weekly visits identify when it is time to interject a plateau breaker into the plan. Medical Weight Loss Clinic is science-based. It is not a ‘get skinny quick’ scheme.”
For anyone starting out or feeling stuck, Anne offers the following tips:
● Stick to the Medical Weight Loss Clinic plan, do not deviate from the plan.
● Journal, journal, journal.
● Visit the clinic as often as possible. Clinicians are there to work with you and mentor you.
As Anne excitedly looks toward her daughter’s wedding next summer, she wants others to know they can successfully lose weight and become their best selves too.
“There is no age where weight loss can't be accomplished,” she says. “No matter how old you are, it's the hard work you put into the process that works.”
